Destination Marketing Project Management Specialist

The USAID/Building Economic Sustainability Through Tourism (BEST) works government and tourism trade businesses in the tourism industry to promote Jordan and tourism products and experiences and build business-to-business relations within source markets utilizing direct promotional activities and digital marketing solutions. The Marketing Specialist will manage a variety of projects that assist major public and private sector clients at the strategic, operational and technical levels. S/he will be part of the Destination Marketing component team. Support will also be provided to local SMEs in creating marketing and communications materials, web presence and sales channels with travel wholesalers and consumers. The role includes hands-on provision of support services, including participation in creating content for marketing purposes, as well as promotion of tourism investment opportunities in Jordan, particular zones or locales.

 

Key Responsibilities

Serve as project manager of a variety of tourism development and promotion initiatives, managing activities, local and international consultants, subcontractors and grantees. Role emphasis is on project planning, research, feasibility assessments, marketing and communications. The position involves working with the tourism and hospitality industries, building capacity, particularly in the areas of marketing and promotion, and contributing to the successful implementation of tourism ventures, launch of new projects and sectoral business plans. Specifically, the specialist will:

  1. Work with tourism industry firms and stakeholders to design and implement cutting-edge innovative international marketing initiatives, including e-marketing, brand development and management, market research and international promotion
  2. Support a variety of public relations activities, including international conferences, media relations and social marketing
  3. Manage international and Jordanian consultants and vendors
  4. Create and present high-quality communication materials and presentations
  5. Provide quantitative and qualitative monitoring and evaluation reports
  6. Interpret tourism statistics for informed decision-making
  7. Contribute to new product development by researching customer needs, devising project and business plans for the introduction and implementation of new projects based on market demand
  8. Investigate and propose cooperative marketing programs for particular industry sectors and work with members of the industry on sector promotion, funding and implementation
  9. Develop marketing collaterals and create content for print and digital media for a variety of businesses at the local community and other levels

 

Candidate Skills and Requirements

  1. At least 7 years marketing experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in an area with fast moving consumer dynamics similar to tourism
  2. Effective marketing and communications skills.
  3. Digital/e-marketing and social networking experience strongly desired.
  4. Excellent project management, planning and budgeting skills.
  5. A record in managing multiple priorities and tight budgets.
  6. At least a Bachelor degree in marketing/communications or related – masters preferred.
  7. Destination marketing and travel industry experience will be highly regarded.
  8. Superior written and verbal communication skills.
