The USAID funded Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism Project (BEST) is implementing activities to enhance the business environment for tourism, increase competitiveness, and help catalyse domestic and foreign investment. Last year, the government announced a new set of investment incentives that are available for the tourism sector. The incentives focus on governorates outside Amman, and encourage investments in hotels, restaurants, amusement and recreational parks, and conference centers. The Investment Law also includes incentives applicable for the crafts sector. USAID BEST and Jordan Investment Commission (JIC) are partnering to increase access of tourism enterprises to these incentives, especially in governorates, and will be implementing joint activities to help enhance the investment environment for tourism. To start with, BEST will support JIC in organizing road shows and briefing sessions for the industry and prospective investors in different governorates, and BEST will raise awareness of prospective entrepreneurs on the new tourism loan products to encourage investment.
